I have a Craftsman 24 HP Lawn tractor that won't start
    Model 917.273621, 48" mower.

I switched out the battery, spark plugs with no luck. 20 amp fuse was fine, but I switched it out anyway. When I turn the key I get no sound at all. Not even a click. I've inspected the wiring and all connections look solid.

Looks like fuel is getting to the fuel filter, but again not even a "click"

Any suggestions? Is this an alternator situation? Starter situation?
How difficult is it to switch these out? I have very little experience with this sort of thing so anything would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
As I thought it might be, your electrical system has a solenoid that os always powered and the triggering of it is done through the white ground wire that goes through the key switch, PTO switch and brake switch. The solenoid can be checked by using a jumper wire from the small terminal with the white wire to the frame. From there you trace from the key switch to see where the ground disappears if the solenoid is working.
    Peace,

I'll give it a try this evening after work. I'm hopeful that by replacing the Solinoid (They are only $14.90) this will fix my problem. (I'll ned to order it however) The mower is about five years old and I haven't had any problems thus far.

If you had to guess - what percentage would you think this could be resolved by a new Solenoid - Is this type of replacement fairly common? I apologize, it's just I'm inexperienced at this type of thing.
(testing volts and ohms and the like)

    Thank you so very much!!

    Hi,
It is a very common problem, but be mindful of how easy I said it was to check. I do not mince words. A jumper wire from the small terminal to the frame/engine will check it!

Hard to start 24 hp Briggs It might be the throttle cable it is not choking the engine, loosen the clamp that holds the throttle cable, pull throttle cable, tighten cable. It worked for me. It is not easy to explain, but easy to do
