    How Do You Know When to Call a Motor a Motor and an Engine an Engine?
    Hi, All!

    The title is my question. I would really like to know.

    I was always taught that motors were just powered by electricity and that for something to be called an engine, had to be powered by a fuel other than electricity.

    Are the two terms interchangeable perhaps? I mean, there's motorsports that to me, would seem to involve, according to what I was taught, mostly engines powered by some kind of fuel, other than electricity.

    Here's one for you! If a motorcycle is powered by gasoline, wouldn't it be better to call it an enginecyle? That is going according to the definitions that I've been taught.

    So, what's the straight dope on that, please?
