Ask an expert in income tax exemptions
Sir, I am a central government employee and staying in our office staff quarters. Recently, I purchased a house by taking a home loan from LIC housing finance ltd. and since last 5 months I have been paying interest for it. I am going to pay around Rs.80,000 for this finanacial year. When I was consulted my staff who takes care of income tax issues, said that you cannot avail this for tax exemtion as you are staying in govt staff quarters and also you are not accupied in your new house. Sir, currently my new house is vacant and I am plaaning to move in a few months. I am getting HRA deduction from my salary for the same. Please advise me how I can avail tax exemption for home loan for this financial year. Currently I am paying around Rs. 2000 per month as IT tax.
