I was told by an AC/Heat repair man that the Honeywell Pro 6000 is the best way to go since I can't afford the top of the line ones they have. My problem is there are so many different model numbers in the Pro 6000, which one is best, which one should I get? I have a heat pump system.

There is NO better one. They are all designed to perform well BUT YOU need to make a decission as to what features are important to YOU not me.

Thermostat selection is of a personal nature. There are features I may want and you do not and visa-versa.

You did not post information on your system. This is needed before you do any thermostat selection. So answer these questions.

Type of system? Gas,oil heat pump,electric furnace?

Exact model of indoor unit and brand?

Exact model of outdoor unit if heat pump style?

Old thermostat brand and model number? This makes the thermostat selection easier.

Number of low voltage wires running from the indoor unit to the thermostat?

Answer as many of these as possible since thermostat selection depends upon information so that you will not make a mistake in your selection.

One last item. If you have a heat pump system I do not recommend any type of set back thermostat since the use of one can end up costing you more money on your utility bill than you will save.

Don't know the voltage of wires or which ones are low/high?. not a tech, just a single mom trying to make it and make it right

I have no idea why he told you to buy it. You will have to ask him.

Honeywell Pro6000 is a set back/ programmable thermostat. I do not recommend a set back/programable thermostat for a heat pump system.

If your old thermostat is working properly I would continue using it instead of spending money on a new thermostat.

He told me that the thermostat I have is not working properly causing the heat pump and EM Heat to work at the same time... isn't the one I got a set/back thermostat?? What kind of thermostat should I get then?

You can still get the 6000 series but just do not use the setback feature. Any Honeywell or White Rodger thermostat that will work with your system will be a good choice. It is always smart to get the thermostat from the company/person who is going to do the install. This way when there is a problem you can go back to them.
