Daughter wants to date a 23 year old
Help! My daughter who is a great kid is a 17 year old senior. She will be 18 in April. She has been talking "seeing" a 23 year old with a 4 year old son! I have tried grounding her, calling the police (nothing they can do). He does work and takes care of his son but I can't get past the age thing or the child. She is a child herself, she has had a very easy sheltered life.I try to explain, he goes out to the bars... do you think he's not going home with anyone? Are you going to take him to Senior Prom? I just don't want her to get hurt... and she will. Advice please, do I just accept it. Her father is "no way" but even he has said, tired of fighting, as long as she never brings him here!

Depending on the state it could be illegal that they date as he would be in a position of contributing to the delinquincy of a minor. He shouldn't even be near her.

If she is seventeen years old, you are still responsible for her by the law as long as she is in your home. Try reverse tactics and it may work. I can almost bet she'll forget him when she goes to college. Good Luck

My daughter, who is 21 now, has always been a kind of, 'I'll do it just because they say I can't' sort of a girl. In your position I would try the opposite tack. Accept he is her boyfriend. Invite him round for tea. Get out the family photo albums. Talk about buying a hat for the wedding. You can work out the rest I'm sure. If you don't frighten the poo out of him or drive her demented then maybe they actually do have a future...

I don't know if this will fit in with the way your daughter's mindset works but it might be worth considering.

In the meantime make sure contraception advice is given. Go with her to the clinic if needs be.

At 17 my girl drove me nuts but we are really good friends now. Good luck. Xx
