    Widower age 60 get husbands ss if he owed back taxes
    I will be 60 in a couple years was wondering if I will be able to draw widowers ss if husband owed back taxes we never filed taxes together so I did not know he owed this money until his passing.

    If you filed separately from your husband, then HIS taxes are NOT YOUR PROBLEM.

    Now his estate (if it has any assets) is required to settle up before making distributions to the heirs, and if you are the executor, then that has to be take care of, but you are NOT obligated to pay those back taxes with YOUR assets, only with his or his SHARE of jointly-owned assets.

    BTW, his owing back income taxes should NOT affect you drawing on Social Security.
