    Cat not using litter box
Hello. I have the litter box for my cat in the basement. He uses it to pee however many times he does his other business on the floor near the litter box. I usually clean it out every 2-3 days, however he still does this. Anyone know how to make him stop?

Also, as no one is home during the day, I wanted to turn the heat down, probably to around 55-60, in order to save on heating costs. I just wanted to see if this would be OK for him, he's about 9 months old. Thanks.

As far as turning down the heat, 55-60 would be okay.

Thanks for your responses. Yes he is neutered. It's weird, when he was much smaller I used to keep him in my room, the litter box was in there as well and it was never an issue. When he got bigger, I moved it into the basement and he was still OK with it. However, over the past couple months he's been going on the floor around the litter box. I've also seen him scratching at the floor around the box as if he was trying to move it like litter.

Try moving the ltbx to a different location in the basement.

He's still being responsible by the ltbx scratching to cover his business.

Last resort... Try a new litterbox. He may remember a past bad experience.

I would also try cleaning it out every day. Some cats can get pretty picky about that. Remember that cats are very fastidious.
