Home hair color disaster!
Hi everyone, I need some help! Ok, let’s start at the beginning. A year ago, I started with highlighted dirty blonde/light brown hair (my natural color) with about an inch of root re-growth. I decided to try going brunette instead of spending a fortune on highlights. I used Natural Match in the Dark Blonde color. This made my hair a weird orangey-beige color. I left it like this for a little bit before going darker. Over the next few months I tried a light brown, and then a medium brown but I always had this reddish tint after a few days that would get worse over time. I tried neutral and ash tones to try and get rid of the orangey-reddish tint to my hair but nothing worked. I just recently dyed my hair a light ash brown and went in for a hair cut, where the lady who cut my hair told me my hair was too green and suggested I go to Sally Beauty Supply and pick up an ash brown with a violet-blue base. I did this, and now my hair is this horrible, dark, and uneven color and it's still reddish orangey. What in the world do I do now? I'm contemplating going and buying one of those color stripping products, but I'm not sure it will do any good. I know I could go to a salon and have them fix it, but I'm afraid it will cost me a fortune which I can't do at the moment. Any advice, suggestions, and/or tips will be much appreciated!

There is no better option but to go to the salon. Make sure you choose a stylist that specializes in color corrections and listen to their advice. You have a ton of products and different colors on your hair now, and it you add anything else, you will have an even bigger mess. If you do decide to go to a salon, don't expect instant results. You will have to gradually return to your natural color over a couple of appointments. Sorry to say, but the box color manufactures have people thinking that haircolor is a "pick and pour" operation. Just go to the store, pick a box with a color you like, apply, and TADA, you're looking good.
Sometimes it's simple, but very rarely. Now you're in a bind and doing a color remover on yourself would be a mistake. Sorry. |

Coloring your hair at home with a store bought hair product can be disastrous. Remember that your hair won't look like the picture on the box. Most of the time it will result in an uneven or brassy shade. The best option for correcting at home color is having a hairstylist work on your hair.
