Hi, Jordana27!
Greetings and WELCOME to the site!
You posted this in Introductions. That's a forum topic area for people to introduce themselves only, and we try to not ask questions there.
I moved your question to this forum topic area, because it's so much about where to live because of your fear of living somewhere that might not be the safest. That would have to do with family and people in general.
Concerning your question - Any place can have so-called bad sections in which to live. Where a person lives is not so much how it is where you live, but how you make it better where you live. You make the grass greener where you are, rather than going to where the grass might be greener. It's those people who try to make the grass greener where they live that help to make improvements to the neighborhoods in which they live.
You'll find good and bad people everywhere, in no matter what neighborhood in which you live.
Where I live, is considered to be a very bad section of town. During history here, it was known for having about one murder each week. (I'm not kidding!) I live right down the street from where a notorious gangster, John Looney, used to live.
My home has been broken into, a couple of times as have a number of the neighbors' homes.
But, through the years, we've worked to make this a safe place in which to live. We've banded together toward the endeavor and pursuit.
It's gotten much better here, with us working together to make it safer.
Granted, you might not be looking for a situation where you need to work for something like that right away. But, I just wanted to submit my viewpoints for your consideration.
Now, I know that you're trying to get a new start on things with your life. That is commendable. I too, live alone. I also moved here to get a better "start" with my life.
It was an opportunity for me...
If you consult with and work with a local realtor, they'll most likely be able to steer you to where it might work out to be the safest place to live where you'll be able to feel safe, as well as maybe work to make things better, both for yourself and for a neighborhood.
It's also possible that there might be a person on this site who does live in or has lived in Charlotte, NC.
If there is, hopefully, that person or persons will come along to give you further guidance.
Are you planning to live in an apartment or to purchase a home, please?
Thanks!
