OK here is my issue I have verizon fios hooked up to my newer model dell no problem just acquired an old hp provillian and am trying to hook it up the same router so the kids need not be on my system messing with my work. Problem is I am an idiot and have no idea what I am doing. I hooked the ethernet cable from the router to the hp and thought that would do it clicked on internet explorer and nothing happened apparently the previous owners used AOL dialup and that is what pops up. What am I doing wrong and How can I fix it. :o
First off completely remove AOL from your system
SSecond you need to tell Internet Explorer to use your DSL connection.
Open Internet Explorer
Tools > Internet Options > Connection Tab > Check "Never Dial A Connection"
Also in LAN Settings UNcheck all the boxes there.
Then click OK on everything and you should be good to go.
I tried doing this, I double checked my wires and everything is hooked up properly.
Internet Explorer is still not working.
Any other ideas as to what could be woring and what should be done?
Are you sure you are getting a connection.
Try this:
Start > Run > Type CMD > type Ping www.google.com
Now if you have an internet connection then you should get a response from Google.
