Toilet making gurgling noise when flush.smell oil
It started a few days ago. When we flush the toilet, it starts fine, but now it "gurgles" when we flush it and it also gurgles in the shower at the same time...
Today it started to smell like oil in the bathroom.
Any thoughts??
Thanks

A "gurgle" indicates a blocked vent. The sound you hear is the fixtures attempting to vent through the traps. The smell may come from a trap that the water level has been sucked down allowing sewer gas to escape. The solution would be to snake from the loavatry roof vent. Put out enough snake to reach the base and 16 feet more. Flush with several pails of hot water. Good luck, Tom

In the trades all of my life This is a first "Oil smell in the bathroom" I think the smell could be a partial clog. Usually it's a sewer gas smell. The gurgling sound could easily be a drainage problem. The sound coming out of the shower sounds is a venting struggle when you flush the toilet. I don't know if your bathroom was plumbed as a wet vent to begin with. Did you notice any change in the shower draining and the toilet bowl draining? The oil smell cloud be a partial clog that's built up with soap/creme rinsed/ etc that's in a partial clog and when the toilet flushes this pushes the water in the shower trap and exposes the clog smell signature. Smell the shower drain when you flush and lets try narrow the smell location and also check the sink drain smell.

OK so... let me give you some more info. This is a 3 unit condo and we are on the top floor. The building has been fully renovated. We are the only ones living in the building. The other two floors are still being worked on. As for the venting... I have no idea how this all works! The smell has gotten stronger. Its more chemically now, as well as oily... kinda furnace like. Anything now??

Yes. It does smell stronger when I flush. As well as being a constant odor emitting from the shower drain...

How does the shower drain in difference to what it was before. I suspect the clog is on that line system. Before we get out the roto rooter tools Close your tub drain off and get some really hot water (3 or 4 gallons) and then open the drain. See how that does. Is this just a shower or tub and shower? Of it's a tub and shower Ot it's a tub ans shower I would pull the waste and overflow out and clean that. Run some more hot water again down the tub drain with the waster and overflow plug out. See how that does and the next step will be snaking out the tub drainage and then the roof vent, Goon Luck!

What do you mean," Not much water"? Is the level being pulled out of the toilet bowl?
You have a blockage downstream from the toilet. The solution would be to snake the lavatory roof vent. Put out enough snake to reach the base and 20 feet more. Good luck, Tom
