    Ask virginia unemployment a question
My position has been eliminated. I was going to be applying for Virginia unemployment benefits in March 2010. My employer has just offered me another position in an area that will add another 1 hr. to my already 2 hr. commute. Do I have to accept this position?

    Hello c:

I'd say no. The unemployment people might say yes. I don't think you'll find a definitive answer here.

I would also say no. However it will depend on what's been reported to UI. If you were reported as a termination, then there is no problem. However, if they report you resigned rather then accept a longer commute, you may have to fight it. If you do fight I believe you will win.
