    posterior uterus?
HI, I am new to the site. I am pregnant with my second child and am 15 weeks along. I didn't have any problems with my first child, but at my first OBGYN appt, I was informed that I have a "posterior uterus." He asked me if I had problems with this before, but I have never even heard of it. He did a "mini" ultrasound (not as high tech as one that helps know the sex/how far along you are), but it was difficult finding the baby and hearing the heartbeat as well. He didn't think I was as far along as I know I am, but when he discovered the posterior uterus' position during the pap smear, I thought it made more sense. I was too embarrassed to ask any questions (I am very over-emotional this time around!) and wish that I had now, but he acted like it was something that needed to be looked at by the main Dr. and it scared me a bit. I have googled "posterior uterus" numerous times, but can only find some info on "tilted uterus." Does anyone have any info or knowledge that would help me understand this before my next appt? Thank you ahead of time!

    Mommy,

Let me begin by saying that it is very important that you discuss all of your questions with your doctor. That is, after all, one of the reasons he spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to go to medical school. He can give you much better educated answers than you will find on the internet.

What most likely is happening is that you have a tilted uterus and it is tilted in a posterior direction. The degree of tilt is different for every woman and without looking at your ultrasound myself I cannot tell you if this poses a problem for you or not.

Why don't you write a list of questions to ask your doctor at your next visit.
