I am switching from gas to electric central heating in a mobile home.
My question is do I still need the vent in the roof for the electric system.
I will be getting a whole new central a/c and heater installed but not right away.
My problem is the current vent in the roof leaks when there is a hard rain with high winds.
Can I remove this vent.
The old gas system does not work anyway.

I have a similar vent on top of my mh but I have an electric furance. This is typically installed at the factory as most mh's comes with gas furnaces unless ordered otherwise.

I just blocked up the vent at the bottom where there is a long 6" sleeve. I occasionally get water trapped in this sleeve at the bottom but have cut a slit in it (that I keep closed with a clothes pin) and that lets the water drain out. It's not a good idea to remove this vent unless you have someone who knows what they are doing roof wise to take it out and then completely seal up the roof where the vent was.

Depending on the age of your home and the type of roof system you have - either metal or shingle - it could cause problems down the line if you do remove it as water will seep into the patched area and leak onto your ceilings.

It's a metal roof and water is already leaking onto my ceiling.
Plus I'm plannig on doing a roofover so the patch will be no problem.
I just needed to know if the vent had to stay or not.

No roof vent is needed for electric heat. Its only needed when your burning some type of fuel for heating.
