Were can I find a baby skunk for sale , I've wanted one for like the last 2 years

Doubtful that you would find a skunk for sale, at least not anywhere legal.

Skunks are wild animals. As a rule, wild animals cannot legally be sold as pets.

If you do find one for purchase then you're most likely supporting someone that's doing illegal business and I doubt very much that his/her means of getting skunks to sell would be considered humane.

I'd give up on the dream of owning a skunk.

Act. If you have a permit for um you CAN have them I've had 3 black bears , and it was on animal plant that they have national pet skunk conventions that's what gave me the idea

Do you think a wild animal living as a pet is happy? Do you think black bears being forced to live in captivity are happy?

I don't think they are.

So I guess it comes down to this. If you can get one, and you don't care whether the animal is happy, as long as you are, then good luck.

There is actually a farm that sells baby skunks and raccoons as pets. I don't remember the name of it... one of our volunteers has a pet racoon.. . she said it's a great pet... but they're a different type of pet. Unlike cats and dogs these guys are nocturnal and don't like to be bothered during the day. If you decide on owning either a skunk or racoon... don't expect a personality like a cat or dog...

Oh? And what were the circumstances of the black bears?
If you could get three black bears it makes me wonder why you need help finding a skunk...

I know that I have seen people with skunks, and they get de sented (is that the right word?), I also know that one along with a raccoon was dropped off at our shelter, and was sent to a national wild life park after getting their clean bill of health because they did not adopt out wild animals. The people who had them didn't want them anymore because they were too "wild". Yup the Raccoon liked to dig in the garbage, and the skunk would hiss at people and did not like to be picked up. Imagine that, wild animals not making good house pets. Hmm :rolleyes:

I would also like to know how and why (unless you owned a wild life conservation) you had/have 3 bears?

I am continually dumbfounded by the remarks made about owning "wild animals." I would hope that people that title themselves "animal experts" (which I am not) would at least take a moment to do some research before answering any questions.

Skunks are known to be great pets. They are wild animals, but breeders have been breeding skunks for some time now, much like ferrets. There are wild ferrets (known as black footed ferrets, known to North America), but there are also European ferrets, which are the ones that are sold in pet stores in the U.S. Ferrets that are purchased in pet stores are NOT wild animals, just as skunks that can be purchased from breeders are NOT wild animals; they have been bred in captivity for such a long time that they are not much different from cats or dogs in terms of their dependency on human beings. These animals enjoy your companionship as much as you enjoy theirs.

Skunks, just like cats and dogs, do have instinctual tendencies that may make them seem "wild," but, that is just because they are so different from humans. Skunks do need to be de-scented and spayed/neutered for the same reasons as cats, dogs, and ferrets.

The only reason you cannot find skunks readily available for adoption or sale is because they are illegal in many states due to fear of rabies transfer and various other precautions. Many animals are illegal to sell or own in many states for a number of reasons, depending on the animal.

From what I have read about skunks, it seems that they are mischievous, much like ferrets, but that they are very cuddly and dependent on their own for love and attention. I do own two ferrets and recognize that, although they are great pets for me, many owners end up adopting their ferrets out to new homes because they can't handle them. Ferrets need to be well understood in order to enjoy them as pets; I believe skunks are much the same.

Well that's a great point of view. I guess I have never done much research on owning skunks. I have only had limited exposure to a "captive" skunk and raccoons, and they did not enjoy being around or in the company of humans.

But thanks for the info, I'm definitely going to read up more on the subject. (I do know here in Canada it is illegal to own any wild animal, skunks included).

I really have to ask about this part of your post. If skunks have been bred to be pets, if there are skunk breeders that do not use wild skunks but breed these skunks that are supposedly no longer wild, then why the fear of rabies?

I don't know of any place that bans ferrets as pets. Why? Because they have been domesticated, they have been bred for many years as pets. There is no longer a fear of rabies because they aren't wild animals.

So why the ban on skunks?
