    Depends on the terms of the clause. Generally, no complete clauses can't prevent you from earning a living. On the other hand companies do have a right to protect themselves from employees leaving and using knowledge gained to take business away from them. You might want to discuss it with your old company and see if they will release you under certain conditions.
