    Oxycotin
My boyfriend has been abusing oxycotin, and I just confronted him within last week. He claims that he hasn't been abusing it for long, however, I know that he is lying. I started noticing very strange behavior, and figured it out. What I am wondering now is what the effects are if he is really not using anymore... and that he is having wd symptoms only. He is still itching like crazy at night... I have never seen anyone ich themselves in their sleep like this, restless, legs and arms going crazy. In and out of sleep, lack of sleep, little appetite, mood swings, pin-point pupils. Are these only symptoms of active use or could he be going through this as wd symptoms? Please help me figure out if he is still using. Thanks!

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using OxyContin Sustained-Release Tablets:

Constipation; dizziness; drowsiness; headache; nausea; sleeplessness; vomiting; weakness.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using OxyContin Sustained-Release Tablets:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); confusion; difficulty urinating; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; seizures; severe dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting; slowed or difficult breathing; tremor; vision changes.

So how I see it those are the side effects from just using and your boy friend is having them. I would think that he might still be using but if he has such a problem and you care about him, why haven't you had him checked into Rehab. I think that what might be best for him is to get help to learn how to control his addiction.

If he is NOT using, then he wouldn't
Mind proving it by taking an over the counter drug test. If he IS still using, he probably will get defensive, and be reluctant to take it.

If he stops taking Oxycontin suddenly, he is going to be mean, and not going to want to do anything. He is going to be ready to climb the walls. And not be able to sleep very good. And there the night sweats. He will be changing his shirt at night( if he wears one).

    Getting off it.

If he is a hard core user, he should be detoxed in an institution. And then go to rehab for about a month, and then get into a 12 step program like Narcotics Anonymous. And STAY in it.

If he is in denial, and not ready to stop taking drugs, he is not going to quit.

He is going to have to hit rock bottom, or have some type of "event", before he realizes that he is going down a horrible path.

I know, I have been there. I got hooked on painkillers from back and hip problems. However, I am clean and sober now.

People can get, and stay, clean. BUT, they have to be ready, willing, and able to do so. Not a minute before.

In the meanwhile you are going to have your work cut out for you.

If he is someone that you want to spend your life with, get into NarAnon. It's a support group for friends and family of addicts. It's kin to Narcotics Anoymous. It will save your sanity.

Good luck, and let us know how things progress.
