    Cold fireplace downdraft
I have a fireplace that I get a downdraft when not in use. I bought and installed a chimney cap. It caps it from the outside on top of the chimney but I still get cold air and if I leave it open all of the heat goes up or cold finds it way down. This summer we check the morter and caulking around the brick outside and took care of all that. HELP! Any low cost solution for this problem?

My fireplace has a flue which I close when not in use to cut out the downdraft.

Does it look/operate like this, scroll down a bit Fireplace Dampers

You will always get some cold air since the masonary chmney is exposed to outside temps and is not insulated. If this is what you have you probably won't get things to be much better

Range - Downdraft Venting [ 1 Answers ]

I am thinking of putting a slide-in range with downdraft venting in an island in the center of the kitchen. Do I have to vent the downdraft system all the way to the exterior of the house? Can I have it vent to the space in between the floor and ceiling below? Or, do you have a better suggestion?
