Very Sick 4 yr old Dachshund
My 4 yr old Dachshund is very sick. Today is Thursday. I have taken her to the vet Monday and Tuesday and she doesn't seem to be any better. She started last Saturday with shivering and being very lethargic. By Sunday I was very worried as she wouldn't eat and seemed to be limping and holding her right paw up. She was very wobbly. I have a larger long haired Dachshund pup (11 months. Old) and I thought that maybe he had injured her in playing. I wrapped her paw/leg with a bandage. Big mistake! Since I am recently out of work, I thought that if I watched her closely, I could avoid taking her to emergency and take her to the vet first thing on Monday. First thing Monday morning, I took her to the vet. I should mention that she had her first pregnancy and litter 6 weeks. Ago. First pup was breach and stillborn at home. I immediately took her to the vet and he injected her and he delivered the second pup. She was beautiful. 3 days later, she killed the 2nd pup. She still has a slight very dark discharge. The vet examined her, she had a temperature of 104 degrees, and put her on antibiotic pills 2x a day (amoxicillin 100 mg.). His examination didn't give us any answers and he took blood and sent to a lab. The next day, she was getting worse and couldn't stand up. The blood test didn't reveal anything wrong and she still had the very high temperature. At first the vet said that he suspected that she had an infection in her uterus. He took x-rays, gave her an infusion of fluid, gave her a shot of antibiotics and Vitamin B. She seemed a little better the next day and I was able to give her a little food (cottage cheese mixed with a little canned puppy food) and water. She finally did pee and poop, but still could hardly stand. The x-rays revealed to the vet that it isn't the uterus, but possibly the pancreas. She is still very sick and not really getting any better. I am really scared of losing her as she is my baby. Please help! Any suggestions?
