Showerhead turns on while I'm sleeping
Has anyone heard of such a problem, and know what is causing this?

When my wife and I are asleep we will be woken up by water coming out of the overhead shower head that has been installed in the ceiling of our bathroom. The water stops in about thirty seconds, but when it's coming out it does so at a decent rate (almost as though someone turned on the shower for a couple seconds).

I just had new plumbing put in two days ago. The set-up consists of a thermostatic valve with an on/off lever connected to a three way diverter. The three-way diverter feeds a tub faucet, a handheld showerhead, and the overhead shower head.

Neither of the other two outlets (tub and handheld) seem to have this problem, and the problem does not seem to relate to the position of the diverter (the past two nights the diverter has been set to the tub faucet).

If anyone has any ideas of what's causing this and/or how to fix it I would be really appreciative. I can't keep being woken up by my wife in the middle of the night for this sort of thing (other things, yes. But not for what almost seems like a ghost taking a shower).

    Thanks,
    Sam

    Hey Sam,

The only thing I can think of is the water that's left in the shower head and chrome gooseneck. My shower does this sometimes also. What happens is that when you shut the shower down water remains in the shower head, especially if it's a big one. Surface tension will keep the water up in the showerhead until it lets loose. Usually in the middle of the night scaring hell out of everyone. When I'm through taking a show and after I turn off the water I give the shower head a little shake until the water drains out. Give it a try. Good luck, Tom

Installing weird showerhead [ 2 Answers ]

I just purchased a Monsoon handheld showerhead at Home Depot, but when I got home to install it, the existing pipe in the shower was like none I've ever seen. There is no threading into which to screw the new showerhead - just a pipe coming out of the wall with a "bald ball" on the end. The old...

Old showerhead stuck [ 3 Answers ]

Hi, we wanted to put a new shower in the guest bathroom but can't get the old fixture off. It was an old waterpik style handheld with metal attatchment to pipe coming out of the wall.
