Hi,

Please can someone help. We have discovered very small kind of insects in one of the kitchen cabinets. They are really small, about a few CMs, they don't seem to fly, just move around. I can't describe them as they are not detailed with the naked eye, will try using a magnifer. I have removed the cabinet from the wall and discovered at the back on the wall a small group of these bugs, so removed all and cleaned. The cabinet is now placed on the wall and a few have come back.

What are these and how to I get rid of them all?

I have looked through all the images and none of them seem to match the bugs in the cabinet. However, they are really small and they seem like a cabinet beetle which will just long with loads of legs.

Thanks for links to the pictures. It seems that the insects are very similar to the Khapra Beetle. The one with loads of legs. I have just realised that my original posting stated CMs and this should have been MMs as they are tiny.

After the clean again, we are still discovering a few odd ones around in the cabinet, again these are the size of a mm or 2.

Boxyman, what part of the planet is your kitchen in? Khapra beetles look very similar to drugstore beetles but one is Asian and one is European. The North American version is called the cigarette beetle. Of course these days an insect can be a world traveler as easily as a human. These beetles are all of a size, immensely destructive, and prolific breeders, despite being completely separate species.

Getting rid of the beetles is a matter of finding their source and getting rid of that first. I'm most familiar with cigarette beetles so I'll tell you about them. Drugstore beetle control is essentially the same.

Check everything that was stored in that cabinet. Dry goods of any type can be a source. Pet treats are the worst, they're put on a shelf and left for years.

After the source is gone, a thourough cleansing with a chlorine based disenfectant should take care of any strays. If you're taking cabinets off the wall then telling you to be thourough is a little redundant, but keep it up.

Can you post a picture from a cell phone or camera to confirm an I.D.
