Furnace stopped in middle of night. Checked the thermostat, don't think there's a problem there. No breakers tripped, but I reset them anyway. Still no heat. VERY COLD! Only about 15° outside. Please help!

You will need to check and test parts with a meter.

Turn power off first and see is there is a fuse located in the unit for the low voltage.

If you find the fuse post back and say weather it is good or not.

I searched everywhere but do not see a fuse in the furnace. The thermostat has one, but it appears to be okay.

My furnace is a Miller split unit Model # E2EB-015HR (not HB). The furnace is inside and the AC unit is outside.

HB and HR are just about the same I believe in the wiring department.

OK take your meter and check to be sure that 240 volts is in the unit at both circuit breakers. Then follow over to the low voltage transformer and make sure 240 volts is feeding it. Then check to be sure that 24 volts is coming out of the transfromer to the control circuit.

NOTE it might not be exactly 240 volts or 24 volts but something close is OK. Report back with your findings. Easy does it you are working with live electric and it can kill you so be very careful.

There doesn't appear to be any power getting to the furnace. I used a Sperry 4-Range Voltage Tester. Does that mean it's the thermostat? Or a worse problem?

There is no 240 volts getting to the furnace?? Be more specific since we are dealing with two types of voltage. High 240 volts and low 24 volts.

Also, back at the end of September I replaced the main breaker for the furnace. I just checked it too and there's no power getting to it either.

The voltage meter doesn't light up at all when touching the bolts connecting the main breaker. Nor does it light up when touching anything behind the furnace cover...

It did light up when testing other breakers in the breaker box and an outlet.

I was incorrect. I replaced the circuit breaker in the breaker box on October 20. I found my receipt and the package. I will return it and get a new one tomorrow. Once I re-install the new one I hope to have heat again.

You have lost your power somewhere. Easy does it you are playing with 240 volts or there abouts. When you find the voltage problem your furnace will probably start working. Is this unit in a mobile home?

Yes, our house is half mobile home, half new construction. All done by the previous owners who liked to cut corners during the addition process. We've owned it for nearly 6 years now and have learned a lot! Thanks for your help.

Got new breaker. On top section that the black wire goes into, the old one was burnt where it sits on the breaker box. The same thing happened to the one I was replacing when I installed that one just a few months ago. The new one wouldn't seat properly and didn't show power so I shut everything off again and reseated it in the slot below it. The furnace is working now. I'll be sure to keep an eye on that breaker box and circuits. I have a feeling I'm going to have to install a new one soon. If anything, besides keeping our house from burning down, it might help us save on the power bill. Thanks again for your advice. My husband will be pleased as well.

Sounds like deterioation of the bus bars is taking place from overheating. Does the bad area have a blue color from overheating? If you are using aluminum wire for the main panel to the furnace be very careful. You have some experience with electric so you know what I mean about aluminum wire. What is the brand of breaker box? I hope not Federal Pacific (PATHETIC). LOL

The breaker box is a Westinghouse, and looks original to the mobile home side of our house. (I think our title says it's a 1975 or 1979.) It's located in what was the master bedroom of the mobile home. Actually, I'm learning the electrical part as I go. I'm a quick learner and have been able to save us a great deal by figuring things out on my own and with the help of advice from people like you. (I have a small amount of plumbing experience too!)

If you mean aluminum wire as in not copper which looks gold, I don't remember seeing any. I've got the panel cover back on the box. I do remember the ground lines are attached to what looks like aluminum.

It looked like the bad area the breaker was seated in has dust on it, from the burning I assumed.
