Thinking about a non fan emergengy nat gas space heaer if my reg furnace stops in the middle of the night? About 20 or 30 thousand B T U s.. I see blue flane... yellow flane... so what's the difference?. tks... richard

I have no idea about blue or yellow but most of the non vented ones use a oxygen depletion sensor so it does not kill you. LOL No kidding.

I and many others do not consider these safe since you breath in the nasty by products of combustion and they tell you in the owners manual to open a window when in use. LOL Who is going to open a window when the emergency heat source has to be put to use.

Sorry but that is the way I see them.

That's a good answer and I don't dought any of it... so... what is a good or better sorce of emergency heat if the elect is off... just enough so we don't freeze and the pipes don't freeze... I m guessing 10 20000 BTU s in the basement and 30 or so on the main floor... I don't worry about opening the door for a few minuets so some fresh air can be moved around... this is for emergency heat for up to a few days with or with out el3ct...

There are units made that will vent to the outside that the blower does not have to run on. This way you are safe burning gas but do not have to worry about the byproducts of combustion. No blower no electric needed. You will have to search around to find them but they are available. Many are made like free standing units but with a vent to the outside.

Well, I say a good gas fireplace (millivolt, with direct vent system) is the way to go. They can be a little pricy, but they will heat the house nicely for emergency purposes and also add a nice feel to the home. Installing one in the basement and one upstairs will cover you even in the coldest of days and nights.
