I replaced the electrical outlets in a room I recently had dry-walled. One of the outlets I replaced was partially (1 of the 2 receptacles) controlled by a wall switch. I hooked the new outlet up exactly as the old one was, but now the outlet is on all of the time. The wall switch no longer affects it. Is there a special outlet needed for this? Is there a special way to wire this? The outlet has 2 black wires, one white and one ground.

Between the two brass screws for the hot wires is a little breakout piece , use a thin screwdriver to pry it out, one wire is hot and the other is switched, so with the jumper still in the hot power is on both outlets.

DO NOT break out the one on the silver side screws.

Look at the old outlet closely may help.

Since this is an older thread, I hope this can still be active. Anyway, I have had the same issue as steforama. However, after breaking the tab, my outlet still wasn't controlled by the switch. It's still "hot"; but not controlled by the switch. Any other ideas? Do the other outlets affect this?

Breaking the tab, allows 2 switches/2sources, maybe both from switches.
If you lost power down line may be from breaking tab, unless meant to be separated.
I would remove switch(s), and look, test with meter, would be great, or use a test light.
