When trading in a car, does the dealership have Title
I bought a used car 1 week ago tomorrow. The dealership was doing all the leg work - insurance, registration ETC. I have to go back tomorrow and get a loaner car because I got a call telling me that the dealership is having problems procuring the title to the car I purchased. How can I be sold a car from someone who doesn't have the Title? Something seems very wrong to me.

They are not suppose to "sell" it to you yet, but used car lots or even new dealers, take in trade ins and don't have the title all the time when they get them in, They are not to sell them till they do.

Yes, this dealer can get into seroius trouble for doing this

Also never, never ( did I say never) let them do your car insurance, we get horror stories on here all the time where they don't, getting the insurance is your resopnsiblity

it does not mean that they won't get a title in a few weeks, there may be some bank delay, but they should give you the exact reason why and if there is a reason this has lowed the value of your car.

I will ask tomorrow about the delay. Very inconvenient and disheartening. It concerns me that there is a problem in the first place. Not knowing the inner workings of a dealership, I believe that any possible delay should be presented up front to a prospective buyer.
Thank you again for your input and time.

If the dealer sold the car as a "consignment", the actual owner may still have a balance due to a lender, and wihtout fulfillment of that obligation, all parties will have to wait for processing.
This time of year, you may wait a little longer. OK?
