    Avoid damaging CD's
    I want to know the safest way to avoid damaging CD's when cleaning the surface.

    The safest way to avoid damage is by not getting them dirty to begin with. Handle them with forefinger in center and thumb at edge. A damp microfiber optical cloth drawn from center to edge in a radial fashion will clean existing fingerprints or dirt while minimizing the effect of any scratches.
