    C-section or natural birth?
    Hello!

    This may be a weird question but which is better to get... a c-section or to have a natural birth?

    My friend and I use to watch the baby channel (where they would show a woman giving birth) and we would cringe at the sight of watching the baby come out and we would say "when we get pregnant were scheduling to have c-sections lol.

    I seem to think they may be easier and quicker to get (from what I saw) but I'm not sure. Ive never had a baby before so I wouldn't know. Anyone that has experience, advice would be grateful.

    Oh, a vaginal birth by far is the best. The reason is that a c-section is major abdominal surgery and the recovery time is days at best. The vaginal birth is easier and the recovery time is hours.

    C sections on demand are becoming quite the trend in the U.S. (especially among the rich and famous)and some would say that the potential risks are being overlooked and or not properly addressed.
    Do your homework to make a fully informed decision.

    If it takes only hours for recovery of vaginal birth why do people say that you have to wait a month to have sex again? I know there's healing going on down there and all but if your recovered why wait?

    I also know that its going to hurt either way, but which is the least pain?

    I've given birth both ways. The C-section was not my decision by the way. I have three children. My first was born vaginally, second was c-section, and the third was vaginally. I strongly recommend vaginally-if possible. The healing process for c-section took a lot longer, and to me-a lot more painful during that healing process.

    Great. Just so you know-I am talking about the birthing processes-not sex afterwards. I just wanted to be clear on that.

    It is not recommended to have sex a while (I think up to 6 weeks-in some cases even longer) after you have given birth vaginally for a few reasons. You can easily Google those specific reasons, or I can copy one of many hundres of links off the internet.

    The recommended time is 6 weeks to have sex whether you have a vaginal birth OR a C-Section.

    It takes a while for the cervix to close completely after a vaginal birth and a while for the uterus to heal after a C section.

    I, for one, will ONLY call a C-Section if the mother and/or baby are in danger, i.e. the mother's blood pressure is to high, or if the baby's heartbeat is not what it should be.

    No, I'm not a doctor, but I am the doctor's eyes and ears when it comes to my patients. I have called the surgery team first and THEN the doctor when it is urgent.

    Again, a C-Section is major abdominal surgery. You will be in bed with a foley cath in your urethra up to your bladder, and in bed for at LEAST 8 hours after surgery, after which walking is very painful for days at best. After a vaginal delivery you are up walking within an hour or two.

    Just wanted to add to the great info you have received already. It is important to keep in mind when watching the baby shows on television that a good number will have quite a bit of drama involved... after all they tend to be more "entertaining" that way. Many are what I refer to as assembly line births... where you see many of the same interventions used for each birth. One can easily come away with the impression that every birth will be very similar and that isn't always the case. At least not if you go into the journey with good information and preparation.

    I had 1 natural and two csections because I had to I would rather have one natural so much better recovery
