    Cant get child's birth certificate
My son has raised my grandson since birth. We live in Ga. He has never been able to get the birth certificate from the Mom. We went today to try to get it and were told she was married at the time. Even though my son signed the paternity acknowledgment papers at the hospital, he is not listed on the birth certificate. The baby does however have his last name. My son has lost his job and has been unable to find another. The Mom let the peachcare insurance cancel on the baby and there is no way for my son to get this back now. He has no money to go through the court like they told him he would need to do. Is there anything he can do to get this taken care of? I am so afraid he is not going to be able to register the child in school or anything without the papers or birth certificate. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

And when he writes to the records office in the state of GA, telling them the names listed on the birth certificate and paying the fee, what do they tell him

This is where GA birth certificates come from

We actually went to the vital records office in the county the baby was born. They told him that because she was married at the time, only she could get the birth certificate. That he would have to go to the Supreme court and explain the situation and they would tell him what actions he needed to take.

Ok, first stop going to places in person, and stop telling your life story to these people.

If you merely know parents name listed on birth certificate, date of birth and have a legal standing to get one, you can order on, merely go online and order one.

You can use one of the pay online companies if you want to.

Is there a family law lawyer in your area who wouldn't mind giving advice for free? Or a free legal aid program?

Thanks so much. I will try the online thing. Actually we didn't tell them anything when we went in person. He gave his ID to get the birth certificate and that's when the lady gave him all these details. Thanks for your help. I was just afraid to try it online and lose my money if it didn't work. Good to know there is a good chance it will :)

There might be a county program. You could check with the welfare office or any housing authorities in the area, they might be able to tell you if there's someone who can help you.
