    Termination laws in California
I am senior management at a design firm in Los Angeles. After returning from my vacation I received two emails within 24 hrs from the owner... 1) Stating he was looking forward to seeing me back at the office 2) Stating my position has been terminated. I have had a flawless track record with the company and my employer has since admitted to a client that he had no reason to fire me and that his hand was pushed by others in the company.(aka his jealous life partner) I am a single mother and I have been terminated from my job one week before the holidays for no reason, my company car has been taken and no severance was offered. A few additional facts (that were documented by the company and I have signed copies) is that I was verbally attacked and physically threatened by his life partner (who is also an employee of the company) 3 months ago... it was so horrific, that my assistant who witnessed it had to take a personal day to recover from it as she stated she was traumatized by the events... no disciplinary actions were taken against him. Also, two employees were caught taking a four hour lunch to indulged in margarita's while the boss was out of town and I was out of the office sick... they were also not disciplined for their actions. If the above behavior can take place and they still have jobs... Do I have a case for wrongfull termination and discrimination? Especially since my boss has admitted he had no reason?

No, you are not being fired for "attacking" someone and you are not being fired for taking long lunches.
If you were, then you could sue that this was common practice

Unless you have some type of contract they don't have to have a reason to file you, they can fire you just because they want to.

I don't see any reason given for the firing, other than they no longer want you.

In small companies, jealous behavior and personal opinions of others is often the reasons for discharge.

    Hello The:

In the absence of an employment or union contract, you are employed "at will". That means they can fire your for ANY reason, or NO reason at all... That would be unless, of course, you were a member of a protected class of workers, and you were fired for your race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or age.
