    white rodgers gas valves
I have a WR gas valve model 36C68 type 209.

Gas is continuously provide to the pilot, even when the pilot is disconnected electronically, and or, when the entire furnace system is unplugged.

I have removed and inspected the pilot control value mounted on top of the gas value body. The small spring which closes the orfice is funtioning - this should prevent gas from flowing to the pilot when power is not activating the selonid.? Can the small red gromet that covers the orfice be defective ? Can it be replaced, or can this pilot control value be replaced? - part number 1437 is printed on the side of the pilot control value.

No modern gas valve for residential use is repairable especially White Rodgers or Honeywell valves.

Your part number 36C68-209 is no longer available. Your replacement is listed below.

Your search for 36C68-209 returned the following item(s): Description of Model Number Searched:24V Relay-Operated Solenoid Line Valve Suggested Replacement:36H32-423 Description of Suggested Replacement:Universal Gas Valve, 3/4" X 3/4", Reducer Bushings (Two 3/4" To 1/2"), 24V, 1/4" Male Spade Quick Connect Terminals, Nat. Gas (Includes LP Conversion Kit), For use on non-piloted or intermittent pilot applications (not standing pilot).

Install instructions for your new valve (36H32-423)

    Wiring for same

The valve is preset to use Natural gas. If you have Propane or LP gas see below.

    http://www.white-rodgers.com/wrdhom/.../0037-6658.pdf

NOTE: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD THIS VALVE CHANGE OVER BE ATTEMPTED BY A HOMEOWNER OR ANY OTHER UNTRAINED PERSON. ONLY PROFESSIONAL TRAINED HVAC PERSONS SHOULD ATTEMPT THE CHANGE OVER/WIRING/ADJUSTING/AND FINAL SETTINGS OF THIS REPLACEMENT VALVE.

I put the above in bold and large print for a reason. Unless you can find a new old style valve for your furnace it will need to be converted to the new style valve as listed above. This as well as any other gas valve install is not a simple bolt on job but a rather detailed job that requires special tools for proper and SAFE adjustment.
