How do I find a decent job with a felony?
I have been on probation for 2 years and have 3 years to go. I am having the most difficult time getting a decent job to survive with 3 kids. I had made a terrible mistake and now I feel I will never be able to overcome or see the light for the rest of my life. All jobs that supply any kinds of benefits and or decent pay either do a criminal background check. I know I should not be complaining.. I am the one who did wrong and paying for it. I just need some help with where and what I need to do now.

There is no easy answer. You keep knocking on doors and filling out applications.
Not all records make you unemployable. What was the charge?

It was embezzlement. I was a single mom for 7 years and took 33,000 from my job.

So you probably can't get any job which requires handling money or being bonded or keeping books.
I think you have to keep knocking on doors - and I know it's going to be rough.

There are lots of jobs out there that don't require a background check. You'll just have to steer clear of the ones that do. You did not mention how long ago the conviction was. Some employers on their job applications ask if you had a felony conviction less than 7 years ago. Some ask have you ever. You just need to carefully read the job application questions. The more time you put between you and the conviction the better your chances are for getting a good job.
You might have to settle for a job that pays less until you are off probation.

Hello r:
I'd apply at mom and pop shops where you can talk to the owner right away. Try to convince him that HE needs YOU - not that YOU need him.

You can apply for any job - you have to be realistic, however, about who will hire you. You cannot get a job which requires a professional license in many States; you cannot work for a Government agency. What type of work are you seeking?
If the company doesn't run a background check OR if it's a small employer with an understanding "boss," you might have a good chance if you've paid back to society and have stayed clean.

Hello so:
You can apply for any job that doesn't require a professional license... That's an awful lot of jobs.

Hi Regretfully,
Here is a long shot, but you might give it a try...
I had two uncles who had felonies for robbing a liquor store when they were young. Later in life when they had families they found that they could not support their families because of not being able to get good paying jobs. So, they wrote the government of their state (Missouri) and asked that the felonies be removed so they could be productive members of society and the gov did it, so now they don't have felonies. You could try doing that and explain the situation.
Other than that, you might want to just try small companies. I was once hired as a bookkeeper/executive assistant for a successful entrepreneur and that company never even asked to see my drivers license! They never did any check on me at all and I wrote out their checks, did payroll, did online banking, paid bills, and kept books! I just made a really good impression. Actually, my second job, they only ever called my first job for a reference and they also didn't do any background checks.
Good luck!
