My 3yr old little boy is reluctant to give up his nappies he knows when he is doing something in it,and hell also sit on the toilet but he just won't give them up any tips ?

When my children were at toilet training age I took each of them on a little shopping trip and let them choose nice pants for themselves. With the boy it was all cartoony fun things and the girl chose all ribbons and bows. I explained these were special presents that they could have when they were a big boy/girl. Then I simply left them in a prominent place in their room. Once in a while if they had said nothing I would take them and let them choose another nice pair to add to their collection.

My daughter simply got up one day and announced that she was a big girl now and wanted to wear the pretty pants. That was it, she literally decided and was trained instantly! She even declined a nappy for bedtime and, despite me worrying it might be a problem, was dry day and night from then on in.

My son was a little more difficult. I've heard boys often are. I got my husband to make an effort to let our little boy seeing him using the toilet and made a bit of a fuss of daddy for being a big boy! We went shopping for some new 'big boy pants' for my hubby, We let my son help daddy chooose. Not sure my hubby would want this sharing with hiis pals lol. From time to time we would ask our son if he wanted to try and be a big boy like daddy and eventually he said OK. He had a few mis-haps at times and needed nappies at night for a while longer but got there in the end. Just as well - he's 23 now lol. I mention that deliberately as I'm sure you don't know many 23 year olds still in nappies - so bear in mind it WILL happen eventually. I used to use that thought when a bit frustrated when anything was hard with the children. I can remember saying to my hubby, one bleary-eyed night, 'I'm sure they sleep by the time they are 16 or something... ' He reminded me of it when I was trying to turf my 16 year old out of bed for school years later heh heh.

Anyway the point is to try and provide incentives without too much pressure and if possible a role model. I have heard that it is often easier with children who have older siblings as they want to copy them.
