    Plumbing piping statement
I am in the process of removing my 60 yr old oil furnace and installing a high eff. Gas furnace. I would love to do it all myself. I have degree in engineering so I think I am up to the task or if I blow up my house I will have "designed" the system to do it. This post is great I learned about some short cuts on preshure testing the gas piping.

How do I write a Piping Statement?

Here in Wisconsin Alliant Energy will not install my meter with out the preshure test, piping statement, weather ( anticorrosion ) portection for point of entery ( POI ), and outside piping painted.

I could not find the requirements for a piping statement on the internet.

    Please Help! Thanks

First of all I do not believe a statement by you will be acceptable to them since you are not in the business of pressure testing gas lines and I also guess you are not a licensed HVAC contractor. I am not being a smart a$$ here just telling you the way things are at least in my area. I have a PE stamp and they still will not accept that for a test of gas lines.

    Here is my suggestion

Contact the gas company and ask them if they have a standard form that needs to be filled out. Most gas companies do use a form for this.

Next contact your local building department and get a permit if necessary. I am sure you would like to have your new equipment inspected just incase you make a install mistake along the way. While you are on the phone with the building department (and talking to a knowledgeable person who is an Inspector) ask about the gas line situation. Some inspectors will play ball and give you the name of a company or individual you can contact or tell you what hoops you have to just through. In my area a new line must be pressure tested by the install contractor and witnessed by a member of the utility company AND the building department before approval. Usually the pressure is left on for the day so the inspections can be made.

How it all works exactly in your area I do not know but if you treat the building department inspectors with respect you will be amazed what info you can find out.

Here are a few examples of check off sheets.

Your area will probably have something similar to the above.
