From Afghanistan to climate change to the economy, and more - everything bad is Bush's fault. The latest? Depressing Hollywood movies are Bush's fault according to Newsweek.

You can blame Hollywood's doom and gloom on the Oscars, but I'm not going to. Instead, I think it's George W. Bush's fault. Most liberal directors felt restless under his presidency, and they pushed the envelope with over-the-top, operatic tragedies. From 1997 to 2000, during Bill Clinton's second term, 20 percent of the best-picture nominees were comedies (Shakespeare in Love, The Full Monty, As Good as It Gets, etc.). During Bush's second term, the Academy nominated only two comedies—Juno and Little Miss Sunshine—for best picture, and roughly three fourths of all the films (The Departed, There Will Be Blood, The Reader) fixated on death.

Wasn't this the year of Hopenchange?

Can't comment extensively because I only went to a few movies this year. What about 'Julie and Julia' ? That was easily one of the best movies of the year. Or 'Amelia '?
You want a funny movie ? How about 'The Invention of Lying' (actually that one sucked so perhaps they are right)
Of course the most recent movie I saw pretty much wiped out the planet. '2012' . Now that's depressing !

I don't go to the movies a lot, we watch at home when they hit the movie channels or just rent the DVD. The only movie I've seen in a theater the past couple of years that didn't depress me was Gran Torino - even though Eastwood bought it at the end. Ok, I enjoyed Iron Man, too.

Went to see Seven Pounds this year, I felt abused by the end of it. The last "comedy" I remember seeing in a theater was the same way, The Break-Up. I couldn't sit through No Country For Old Men.

The only one on my radar at the moment is Sherlock Holmes. It looks like great fun.

Actually I think you are right with Bush's war on terror and the PC effect of not upsetting the Muslims, anything like a real story went out the window and the film scene descended into mediocracy. I'm waiting for the epics like The Hunt for bin Laden, Iraq, The Rise and Fall of Saddam' Empire, Terror in Afghanistan, 2001, Cornutopia, Wall Street Down, The Bush Diaries

I think censorship was an issue, stepping around issues

In fact there were a bunch of movies, anti-war in nature ,that were dreadful flops during the Bush years .

Ditto on Gran Torino and Iron Man. Speaking of Will Smith, I fell asleep on 7 pounds but enjoyed, Pursuit of Happiness [ remember the IRS taking the last dollars out of his account ] and Hancock.

Not all War on Terror films were bad; How about "The Kingdom" or "Body of Lies" or "Blackhawk Down?"

Scratch that, it's no longer all Bush's fault - it's the fault of evil right-wing billionaires.

According to Think Progress, a couple of "radical right" brothers are The Billionaires Behind The Hate.

Think Progress is a project of The Center for American Progress Action Fund, is a non-profit, non-partisan "progressive think-tank" dedicated to "creating a long-term, progressive vision for America," funded by billionaire George Soros. You really can't make this stuff up.

Steve ;that sight is amazing .At the bottom of the link the "progressives " are concerned that women's rights will deteriorate as the Afghan surge progresses . You would think a bigger concern ;if women's rights were the issue ,would be a complete takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban.

You would think that's a given but in my view, feminists are not known for making much sense. How else can you explain them preaching to us for 40 years to "keep your laws off my body" while supporting Obamacare?

Seeings as how my RB options keep dwindling to next to zero, I made that my first priority. Shame we didn't play the Browns D... but who would have ever thought they'd hold the Steelers to 6 points and get 8 sacks?

Thanks, Spit. I would say feel free to drop AP, Jackson, Ochocinco and co. but hopefully you're still in it to the end. There will be a consolation trophy... I know, a "best loser" trophy isn't the same but what the heck.

ESPN is projecting them to have as many points this week as the Fins and the Raiders D .

My problem was the matchups this week with the Chargers going against the Boys and Denver against the Colts. I solved that by picking up the Bills D who are playing a very weak KC offense. Next week the matchup for my defensive units improves so I'll pass of the Saints.

I will go as far as Manning takes me.
