I have a problem... My drivers license is suspended for "OBTAINING A LICENSE BY FRAUD". Yes, I did that. I got a false drivers license when I was 19. I got caught several years later, I was at the dmv when I got caught, they went in some other room and told me to wait outside but instead of waiting I just jumped drove off. A few months later I checked and found out that my drivers license is suspended. I sure could use some advice.

How did you obtain it by fraud ?

So you don't drive till you get it corrected, you find out what the fine, and/or waiting period is and then go back to get one properly

I don't think anyone here is going to encourage you to break the law by driving without a license.

No no, that wasn't what I was asking. I don't want to break the law by driving without a license. I just want to know, what kind of consequences I am facing. I have to go get an attorney and fight it out, I know that, and I know I'm facing a felony charges. But, what if I just decide not to drive? Then is it possible to not have a felony? See I have not gone to court or anything yet.

Ok, so what I'm saying, I got caught by the DMV, but I ran out before I really knew what happened and then just looked up my status on the internet.

Your explanation and original question don't match (in my eyes) BUT it depends on how you were charged - attempting to use false ID, attempted criminal impersonation, actual use of false ID, actual criminal impersonation.

What is the charge?

I don't know the charges yet, I just know I have a suspended license and to get it back, I think I will have to face charges. I'm should have worded that question differently.

But I guess I'm thinking if I just decided to live the rest of my life without a drivers license then perhaps I can just do nothing and I won't get any charges. I hope I am explaining that correctly...

Hello biding:

Somehow, you think DRIVING is what will cause the cops to catch you for your previous felony.. I don't think that's the case at all. If there's a warrant out for your arrest, driving or not won't change that.

This is what I'm trying to figure out, I committed this felony, and it was 4 months ago. Shortly after I did it, my mom and I were pulled over by a cop for something minor, but he took both my license and my mom's and gave us tickets for no seat belts. (It was the same state I have my license suspended in.) I was sweating golf balls and all he did was give me a citation. Wouldn't I have been arrested if I had a warrant out? Also I tried looking it up online and nothing came up. I'll guess I'll try again. Does it take a long time for them to get a warrant out?

What do you need to do, hire an attorney, have them see if there is a warrant out for you. Often issues at DMV don't turn criminal but are left in house under their rules.

If the fake ID had your real address, if there was a warrant most likely you would have had police at the door by now.

But an attorney will still be needed to work though the laws of the DNV ( not always laws but rules)

Normally a suspended license of 1 to 3 years is about most they give unless there is propety damage to others.

Doing nothing is about the worst thing, facing the events is always the best ( with an attorney of course

I do plan to get an attorney, first thing next week! I've just been doing as much research on the subject as I can now...

So Chuck, (or anyone else reading this) do you think there might be any chance I can get my license back without a felony on my record?

If I got my license suspended for 3 years and some fine and that was it I would be jumping for joy.

Well, I could just go overseas and teach English for a few years.

I think that if I get a criminal judgment you are right, this might be a problem, but I'm pretty sure that if it's a DMV problem they don't check. And when I said that, I was referring to just have a suspended drivers license and not to having a felony charge.

And anyway, I think I would most likely apply for a hardship license and I guess I can still work on having a career if I didn't get a felony and I could be a productive member of society. =oP

Your approach to your problem is exactly BACKWARDS. By doing what you propose to do, your problem will NOT go away. It will just fester and get worse, and there WILL come a time when you face the bar of justice...

What you do NOW will effect how hard the bar will come down on you...

Hi ex con,

Well, I said that I'm going to get an attorney and get this taken care of next week. I only meant that I was going to travel AFTER I get this taken care of and actually, I already changed my mind about that. But in all sincerity, it's true that I obviously don't always make good decisions, so if you have any advice about what I should do, please do tell me. The reason I'm posting here, I want to know what you think I should do so that I don't go about this all backwards.

Fr_Chuck gave me the best answer so far; but I really do appreciate everyone's responses!

Ok, I see why you wrote that, I didn't clarify... When I said, "I could just go overseas and teach English for a few years" I meant after I faced up and during my suspended license period. I did not mean doing that in place of taking care of things.
