Not sure if it was edited in or not---but she wouldn't tell.

    How old are you?

I was dealing with this same situation for the past few years. I (unfortunately) knew my birth mom, but she refused for many years to tell me my fathers last name. One day, almost a year ago, I made it very clear via an email to her that I had the right to make the decision on whether I wanted my birth dad in my life and she had to respect that. 4 months later she emailed back with his last name. It's worth asking her one more time, just make sure to be a bit more firm.

I was basically the same, my mother and father split up before I was born and we don't keep in contact with him atall, all I want is my dad. But sometimes I ask myself this question, and I'll ask you - 'would you really want to keep in contact with a man who left because he didn't want you, do you really think he would have changed his mind, because if you or I were unwanted in the first place, why would we be wanted now?'

So don't go looking for him too soon, think about it for a bit, in case he lashes out, or says he doesn't want you in his life and breaks your heart, because if its just you alone, your no threat.

Again, the age question stands: If the OP is under 18, then ALL searches need to go through his adoptive parents.
