    bryant furnace recall
    I have a Bryant furnace/ac model # 355MAV042080 serial #4294A01626 installed 0n 9-18-96. How long should a $5000 unit like this last anyway or did I get ripped off? I have had numerous problems with the blower control board not operating the variable speed motor properly. If the furnace has to run for a lenghty period, sometimes it freaks out and the blower ramps up and down for as long as 5 minutes before it stops and starts through a new cycle. I have spent over $600 on service calls and parts. It usually doesn't act up when the service tech is here. They tell me it seems to be operating just fine. Anyone else experiencing this on their Bryants. Any recalls on this blower or contol board? It's driving me crazy, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ed in Ohio

    I have not heard of a recall on this furnace but since it is 15 years old any recall would have run out by now.

    I have not had that trouble or complaint on any of the furnaces (Bryant, Payne or Carrier) having the trouble.

    If I were you I would contact the Bryant company and give them the same info you gave on here, see if they can help.

    From what I've seen, there are 3 common things that spell trouble for these: 1) Moisture ('nuff said) 2) "Spikey" or inconsistent utility voltage 3) Improper installation/application. If unit in question was a replacement in an older home, some or all of the previously-existing duct system may be inadequately sized, even if the unit is correctly sized for the application. Excess static pressure results in excess motor RPM's & the speed control module may overheat. Any or all 3 in combination... problems you were/are experiencing may not be fault of product.

    I'm in agreement. Have the static pressure checked on the ductwork.

    Bryant Enhanced Heat Exchanger Warranty Program is available on product for twenty years from date of installation. High recommend having the unit checked asap and before the unit is twenty years old. If there is a problem with the heat exchanger, the manufacturer will allow 4 hours labor to install a new secondary heat exchanger. The other option is to take a $520.00 credit toward the purchase of new unit.
