Car stalls while driving
My 84 Crown Vic seems to be turning itself off at any speed. It is very sporadic, sometimes runs for weeks, then has days of turning itself off. I've replaced the distributor control module, the coil, the fuel pump, the ignition swith and lock to no avail.

You've done a good job of covering most of the bases. I would focus on the crankshaft position sensor ($33.99 at AutoZone). Have you checked for codes?

Thanks for the answer. It was in to 2 shops a year ago and it would not do it when there and I was told the basic computer on this car did not show anything.

You might even try removing the Crankshaft Position Sensor and cleaning it with WD-40 and rag.

To TxGreaseMonkey, I purchased the sensor and went out today to install it as the weather is decent. The sensor looks easy to install, I figured maybe 10-20 minutes. The problem is I can't find it on my car? I've looked under the hood and under the engine with ramps and don't see anything like the part, anywhere. Am I blind? Thank you

It should be located just off to the side of the crankshaft pully, held on by one bolt.

Well this is very strange. I did find a bracket that is part of the timing pointer hanging on the side of the pulley. It looks as if the sensor would fit in it but there is no sensor, just an open hole there in the bracket. There is nothing hanging there (wires), and there seems to be no place up above where anything would plug in? Or where it would be missing. Could Ford have done something different on this car? That bracket sure looks as if it was meant to hold something and it's the same diameter as the sensor.

You had better consult a Haynes Manual or other reference. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Thank you for all of your help on this. If I ever find out what is causing the stalling or why my car does not have this part when all of the part stores show it has one I will let you know. I appreciate your time.
