    Hp c6100
    HP Photosmart C 6100 --color printer

    Want to print only black printouts.. but it is asking me to install all colors irrespective

    How can I override and print using only black

    Also even thoug I rarely use color printing.. every few weeks it is asking me to replace color inks.

    Please help

    A couple of things come to mind.

    First, check your driver to make sure that you have selected "Print Gray Scale Only."

    Second: If your printer is testing the ink levels during POST (Power On Self Test) then you have to put the correct cartridges in. If you are getting the error messages every week or so, I suspect that you are not using HP ink.

    I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?

    Please consider the following:

    If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.

    They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.

    If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges
