We are trying to put a hampton bay chandelier in our kitchen and it isn't working. The directions say to connect the wire with writing to the black wire and the other to the white and the ground to the ground. We have done all that with no success. However, our Kitchen outlet has two sets of white, black and ground wires. How are we to connect these? We think we have tried every combination, but have had no luck. Please Help quickly - we are having lots of guests arrive tomorrow to our new house for Thanksgiving and have a huge electrical mess in our kitchen - and little light to cook by!

Ceiling fan repair guy - I hope you can help me - by the way I have a ceiling fan that was removed from my house and didn't know what to do with it - I am considering switching another one out - then I would have two I don't want!

As far as the lighting, it's not really my thing but I'll try to answer. Do you have a volt meter? I am assuming one set of wires is your power source and the other is your switch loop, unless there is another light on the same switch. Measure which set of wires has 120vAC and that is your power supply. Or just try hooking the light to each set, it should work on one of them! If you confirm that it is indeed a switch loop, you hook it up like this:

The two blacks from the ceiling connect together. The black from the light connects to one of the whites (the one from the switch loop), the white from the light connects to the other. All the grounds connect together. The white from the switch loop should be marked with black tape.
