What Is It About Treats That Makes Dogs Like Them So Much?
Hi, All!
I'm talking about the dried treats that are specifically designed as being treats.
What might it be about them that makes the dogs want them and like them so much, please?
I'm currently house and dog sitting. The dogs are well-fed. They always look forward to the treat that they get at the end of their meal.
I really don't know why the taste of the "treat" is so special...
Thanks!

I guess it's just because it's something different to what they normally get.
I know the treats I give mine smell really strong, they are dried beef and they love them, their regular food is just canned plus dry, I try to mix the flavors up but it still would be a little bland getting it every night.

Why do people like dessert after dinner?
I think the same applies for dogs, it's just some really good stuff :)

But, it would seem that there would need to be more of something, at least to me, to make them want the treats?
Desserts for humans are usually sweets of some kind.
Everything that I give to these dogs for food and treats is dried.
Thanks!

You know Cloughy I don't think anyone will ever really know what's going on in those little puppy brains.
Sometimes I wonder what my cat is thinking and why he does the things he does but I guess some things are supposed to stay a mystery;)

I can give my dogs a plate of roast chicken but if I am eating dry toast they will still want that because it MY food... they are strange creatures.

I think they love it because of th extra attention. This may sound foolish I know, but my dog loves it when I handfeed him anything.
He is very picky so when I put food in his dish he will smell it and walk away. But if I pick a piece up and pass it to him he'll eat it!
He's a funny dog! ;)
***Oh and Shazamataz your dogs sound like my cats. I'll feed my dog and then feed my cats a few feet away. They'll start to eat their cat food and then when I turn my back they would go and eat the dog's food. And Rex will just lay there and watch them eat it.
So one day I did an experiment. I thought the cats perhaps did this because they liked the dog food more. Boy was I wrong. I put some cat food in the cats dishes, and some in the dog's dish. I walked away for a sec and sure enough when I got back both cats were eating out of the dog's dish! I couldn't believe it.
I guess they just like ''HIS'' food more. Even if they have the same.

Haha yep, they seem to like anything that isn't theirs!
The thrill of the chase (or steal) I guess :D

So, the consensus of opinion here would seem to be that it's an attention thing and not so much the real "taste" of the treats?
Thanks!
