    Craftsman lawn tractor won't start
We have a craftman riding mower that turns over but will not start. We got the tractor from someone knowing it didn't run. Got it started after changing the battery, oil, sparkplug and selinoid, ran great but blades not turning properly. Sat for a awhile before we got back to it, changed mandral and belts put everythng back together. Won't start now, smelled something burning, cooked the starter. Got a new starter, now it turns, but won't start.
Blades will not disengage. Looks like it needs a new clutch cable, but will that stop it from starting?
Any ideas would be helpful. It is a craftsman LT1000 briggs and statton 16.5 hp. Maybe 8 yrs old?

    Hi,
Model numbers are helpful. Engine info could be, too. Sounds as if the ignition ground is grounding out the ignition just off the bat.
    Peace,

Is the fuel solenoid on the bottom of the carb working properly?

If not it might be keeping the engine from getting any gas.

    Hi,
On the same side as the carb, is the ignition ground. It is beneath the throttle linkage and attached to the same bracket. It can be unplugged to isolate the engine form the frame. That way you can see if the problem is in one or the other.
Your manual is at this link:
