IE Favorites list slow to open
I have a customer whose approx 400KB Favorites folder opens very slowly (15 seconds or more) when the favorites button is clicked in IE6. Any ideas?

Are the favs organized into groups? If not, that might help.

Yes they are all in folders - so that's not it - I intend to copy them all to another temp folder after the holiday and then put them back one folder at a time.

    Hmmm seems odd.
My boomarks are nearer the 500Kb mark and work fine.
Is this machine showing any other symptoms, as it maybe something as simple as some serious maintenance.
    Like FULLY patch, defrag etc.
Also is changing browser an option ?
Firefox is definitely worth a good look, very fast and with a smaller overall footprint than IE.

I don't think so - I work on it regularly and its pretty clean and up to date - user said two new favorites were added just before problem began and then took them out but problem stayed. Won't see it till next week so maybe wait till then for more data.

OK new data from visit to client - I decided to remove all favorites from normal folder to see if it would work OK with none. Lo and behold one of the url shortcuts would NOT copy due to a "data error: failed cyclic redundancy check". As yet I haven't been able to delete it - to me that sounds like a parity error in RAM or maybe a data structure issue on the HD. Im thinking of starting using Recovery Console - Repair and trying to see what Sandisk finds or maybe go after it in DOS. Any suggestions?

Success! I found by following a discussion in another group, that I could cause CHKDSK to run at the next startup by going to My Computer then right click on C Drive and go to Properties - then the Tools Tab and click Check Now. This found numerous issues including 4 sectors that could not be read (possible head ding?). Anyhow after a 5 phase run all is well - it took over an hr but fixed the problem.
