I have a newer model Craftsman tablesaw. It's incredibly loud. I bought it because when I was in a friends shop, he was working with an older model Craftsman tablesaw and it was so quiet, you couldn't tell it was running. I thought that'd be perfect and went and bought the tablesaw only to find out that it was much louder. How could I suppress the noise? Anything I could extract from the motor? Thanks!

I would go back to Sears and test one of their floor models to see if they all sound this way. The electric motor and the teeth of the blade will aklways make noise so I am a bit surprised your friends saw was so quiet.

Thanks! Yeah, it was a much older model but it was incredibly quiet. It just made sort of a silent hiss. I don't know if it was due to a smaller motor and I never bothered to ask why it was so silent because I thought they all came that way. Thanks once again!

Remove your blade and test the noise level. It could just be the teeth on this particular blade.

I attempted that today. The motor was still pretty loud but the overall noise level dropped dramatically. The blade I had on the saw was a General Purpose blade. I'm guessing that since the saw my friend used was quiet, either they purchased a smaller motor or more quieter motor, or they had to have a better blade. When I see them again, I'll be sure to ask. If anyone ever buys this saw pick up an extra brake mechanism SawStop Brake Cartridges while your at it.

Once you stop admiring how the saw works, and how it saved your fingers. You will have to replace it to get it running again.

For $70 - $90, it's still better than a trip to the ER

I've seen that saw up close and personal at a local woodcraft store. I did fall in love with it.

Where I worked, we though the table saw was the most dangerous piece of equipment in the machine shop.

No doubt in my mind, so are the portable 71/4" power saws. I have a daily reminder from 40years ago, when a portable jammed and took a walk across my right thumb.
