Kicking out a roommate who is not on lease and has not paid rent
My friend moved in with me for what was supposed to be living with me for a couple weeks... this was in September 09 and now it's November 09... I want her gone because she is not only rude and obnoxious, she disrespects my space and is disrespectful to my dogs. I have told her she doesn't have but a week to move out since she got a job yesterday. She works over by her parents house and her boyfriend's house so I told her she needed to move in with one of them, it's not only closer but she complains about never seeing her boyfriend since it works. He lives with his mom but pays half of the mortgage so he can very well say that he wants her there. I want her out of my apartment and back where she came from. The only problem is that I have known her since I was 5 and she was 4 and now I am 21 and she is 20. She can't be added to my lease because my parents are on my lease so that I could have the place to be closer to school and it's in a safer area than I was before. Since the three of us are on the lease she can't even get on it and I don't want her on it. How do I kick her out without losing a friendship? She is great when she doesn't live with me but when I have to be around her for long periods I just can't do it. So how do I lose her without losing the friendship?

In life you have to deal with "tough love" sometimes. Be honest with this girl, tell her that you would like to continue to help her, but are unable to. Tell her that if you need to, you will help her find another place to stay (if this is true for you) Let her know that you won't let her live on the streets, but she can't stay there, and suggest other places (ie. Her boyfriends, her parent's, her boyfriend's parent's, etc.) Make it clear that you don't want her moving out to come between you and her (oh yeah, and use the words moving out, as oppose to being kicked out) I'm in almost the same situation. My sister was kicked out of my parents and is now living in my apartment with me and my fiancé who is there part time. I had to tell her that I can't afford to keep her there for very long, but I wouldn't let her stay on the streets, if it came down to it, I would help her find a place to stay. Maybe you can use these same words. Good luck! |
