Plunger in tub drain is stuck
My bath tub has a plunger type drain that seems to be stuck in the up position. I noticed this happening in a different bath tube and removed the plunger. I then used steel wool and cleaned it up. With this tub I can't get the plunger "un-stuck" to be able to remove it. I would imagine it is corroded and stuck in the pipe. What can I do to get the plunger free so I can remove it? I've tried WD-40 but that didn't work. Help.

Use more WD-40 and put some muscle into pulling the bucket up. If you have a access panel to service the trap you can remove the tub waste and simply push the bucket out the top. Or you can just replace the assembly. They don't cost that much. Good luck, Tom

Thanks Tom. I'll try more WD-40 and pull harder. I don't have a panel behind the shower.

If you get it out steel eool the plunger and the inside of the waste and then lube with Plumbers Heat Proof Grease. Good luck, Tom,

I have a plunger tub drain. We have never been able to engage the drain because the lever is locked in the down (open) position. I purchased a new overflow/lever housing because I thought the spring may have been bad. I just went to install it and the lever still won't go up! Could there be a...
