    No sound
    Hi,
Do you use Win98 or 98SE?
This path you gave would indicate that maybe you do.
I use Win98SE, with no such file.
    Have you tried the following?

Right click on the speaker icon down in the tray by the clock.
Left click on Properties. Then, click on Advanced Properties under the heading Playback. Toward the bottom, make sure your correct speaker choice is there. Click on OK.

Then, Right click on the speaker icon again, and left click on Open Volume Controls. At the top, click on Options, and be sure there is a checkmark by Advanced. Look at the bottom to see if nothing has been Muted.
Click on the Advanced button under the heading Play Control Balance. Look to the bottom to see if "1 Digital Output Only" does NOT have a checkmark by it. Click on OK.
If the above doesn't work to give you sound, please post back.
Also, If you have a sub-woofer with an electric plug in, then un-plug the sub-woofer from the wall outlet for about 3 minutes, then plug it back in. This will "reset" the sub-woofer.
    Best of luck,
    fredg

    Hi Dennis,

First thing - next time you create a post, can you give it a title of something more useful than your name. You may get more responses this way. It will also help us the difference between your threads.

OK, next thing. Do you have any of the original CD's that came with your PC? Your motherboard has an onboard sound, so you'll probably need a motherboard disk.

Also, I'm sure somebody must have asked this before, but can you do the following and tell us what you see.
    • Click on Start
    • Right click on My Computer and select properties.

If My Computer isn't there, minize everything to the desktop and right click on the My Computer on your desktop. If that isn't there, you'll want Start >> Control Panel >> System

    • Select the Hardware tab
    • Click the Device Manager button
    • Do you see any unknown devices? Anything with a yellow ? as an icon. How about anything with a red cross through it? Check under the different sections - especially Sound, Video & Game Controllers.

Let us know what you find. That may help us solve your problem. In the meantime, I'll try and look for some sound drivers for your motherboard. Can you give me the make and model of your PC (e.g. Dell SomeModel123)? That may help.

Try taking a look at http://www.driverguide.com. You might be able to find the drivers for your motherboards onboard sound there.
