I have a small 2 story house - down stairs there is 4 rooms 3 of the rooms have 2 - 4ft. Baseboard heaters under each window, and 1 room has an 8ft. Upstairs is 2 rooms with 1 -8ft. Heater.
I use this property as a rental and my past renters electric bill was between $600-$700 a month. :eek: I have all new flooring, windows and doors, and I am getting a new roof put on next week.
I spoke to an electrician and he stated the thermostats may not be working and the baseboards may be running non-stop.
My question is - do I need all those heaters? My new renters say they use 2 of the 8total heaters in the house (and the house is really hot)... Should I swap out the 8 footers for some of the 4 footers and eleminate some of the 4 footers? How may baseboards should I have, and should I have an 8ft. Upstairs. If I get rid of the 2 - 8ft. And some of the 4ft. Would that reduce the electrical bill, along with fixing the thermostat??

If your stats are working correctly it should not matter if you have 10 or 40 heaters, they should shut off when the set temp is reached. No need to switch out heaters but the stats need to be confirmed that they are working. I am surprised the elctrician did not do this. Can you tell us more about what he did?

He was just made aware of this and so was I , he said he will come out and check the stats for me, It is good to know it doesn't matter how many baseboards you have, it does seem that the heaters run non-stop, I never felt a warmer house in my life... thanks for such a quick answer

First of all... is each room on it's own thermostat? If so, then it will be pretty easy to determine if the thermostats aren't working properly. Where you live, and the overall insulation properties of the house help determine how much heat you need. The thermostats, if wired properly and working will keep the house at the desired temperature. I'd bet you have a control problem (thermostat). Keep us updated.

Yeah each room is on its own thermostat, Im almost sure that is the problem after reading all the posts and speaking to a few people. However all the thermostats and heaters are new?? The house is in Michigan, so its cold but is well insulated besides the roof, which is getting replaced next week. I will keep all of you updated & thanks for your help... wish I would have found this site alond time ago... :)
