Correct starting procedure for 92 Honda Civic?
Hello! I am looking for some advice. I had a mechanic tell me that it is best to start my Honda Civic (1992) by 'cold starting'-- turn on the ignition switch, wait for the panel lights to go off and then start the car with no gas. Another mechanic said to start it immediately with an accelerator depressed 1/4 of the way--> I'm afraid this will cause flooding of the engine...

Does anyone know the correct procedure? I appreciate your insights.

Your 92 Honda Civic has fuel injection. Your first mechanic is correct, partly anyway. You don't even have to wait for any of the lights to cycle on & off before you crank. If you want, you can just crank the engine on. Your second mechanic needs to be taken out to pasture!!

The first mechanic's procedure you quote is dead on. Waiting for the Check Engine Light to come on for 2 seconds and then go out allows the fuel rail to fully pressurize before starting. This is easier on the starter and battery and is particularly helpful in cold weather. This is the proper way to start all modern-day cars.
