Sick Bulldog
My bulldog is a year and half. She started throwing up last week, but still is not feeling well. I thought it was just the pine cone that she got a hold of because that usually makes her throw up. Her throwing up kept getting worse and worse. She threw up about 5 times within an hour. It was just yellow liquid though. I called the emergency vet and they said take her food and water away for a little while to eliminate that from making her throw up. It's been a couple days since she has thrown up but now she won't eat. I've tried mixing dog gravy in her food and she just licked the gravy and spit her food out. I made chicken and rice and she ate some of it but not much. I took her to the vet and they said that they would have to keep her for a couple days to run some tests, but I cannot afford to leave her there. They gave us some pills that should help settle her stomach, but so far I have not seen a difference. The poor thing looks miserable and she's not herself. Is there anything else I can do to get her to eat?

Pine cone?? Did it go though her system, or is it inside her clogging up her intestines? She could be starving to death or have a perforated bowel.
Work out a payment plan with the vet.

She chews the pine cone into pieces trying to get the seeds out, but sometimes she will get some of the pine cone and her stomach can't digest it and she throws it up. She's been going to the bathroom so I don't believe that anything would be clogged.

If she's not eating, what is she eliminating and what does it look like? Runny or normal or what?

Maybe her food is bad,
Sometimes bags of food can get wet and get moldy and turn bad.I would get rid of her old dog food!
I would get her new food.
Until she gets better put her on a diet of rice and cooked hamburger.
I think that is your best bet,not greasy hamburger, lean hamburger.
More rice than hamburger.

She ate some chicken and rice today and threw that up. Got her to eat some canned food and she was able to keep that down. She got some energy in her and wanted to play for a little while. But now she is back to not wanting to eat anything at all. She's peeing and pooping fine. It might be a little wetter then usual but that about it.

It's not what you believe, it's what a Vet finds.
The fact that she is able to "go to the bathroom" does NOT mean she doesn't have blockage or a perforation.
My neighbor's dog died after eating a corn cob - took almost a week but by the time she got to the Vet it was too late. And, yes, there was a partial blockage followed by a perforation of the intestine.
Part of owning an animals is seeking medical treatment when you have a sense that something is not right.

One tiny piece of pine cone, even if it did pass through her system or she threw it up can cause a perforation.
They are very sharp when they are chewed up and it could have torn her oesophagus, stomach, bowel, intestine or anything along the way...
The only way to know for sure is to have an x-ray or ultra sound done, an x-ray won't set you back much, I think it is about $50 here (mind you I am in Australia)
It also may have nothing to do with the pine cone... she may have another illness.
Most vets these days do payment plans if you are a long term customer, have you used the same vet for the past 1 1/2 years?
